ORTHO-K LENSES

Imagine a vision correction that works while you sleep. Imagine waking up to clear, comfortable vision in the morning, without the need to wear specs or contact lenses during the day. Well, imagine no more. Introducing… Ortho-K.

Orthokeratology (ortho-k) corrects your vision while you sleep. Simply remove the custom lenses upon waking and enjoy a world of clear, natural vision throughout the day.

Ortho-K is safe and effective and has transformed the lives of thousands of people across the world.

WHY ORTHO-K

Ortho-K is perfect for people who suffer from mild to moderate short-sightedness and wants to enjoy clear, natural vision all day, without the use of contact lenses or specs.

Unlike laser eye surgery, Ortho-K is non-invasive and reversible, making it the best choice for anyone who has considered refractive surgery, but are concerned with the risks.

Without the limitations that come with soft lenses, Ortho-K is ideal for people who want to enjoy an active lifestyle.

THE SCIENCE

Ortho-K lenses gently reshape the curvature of the eye overnight, creating a slightly flatter cornea. The cornea plays a key role in creating a sharp, optical focus.

Ortho-K lenses use a tried-and-tested design and is only ever performed by a trained optical specialist, which is non-invasive, comfortable and safe.

IS ORTHO-K FOR ME?

Ortho-K is recommended for patients with mild to moderate myopia:

  • A spherical spectacle description of -0.75D up to -5.00D
  • Astigmatism of up to -1.75D

Ortho-K is perfect for people who:

  • Want clear natural vision all day
  • Find that soft contact lenses aren’t comfortable
  • Are involved in sport and other recreational activities
  • Have considered laser surgery but are concerned with the risks

Suitability assessment

If your prescription fits the criteria, your Optometrist will further investigate your suitability for Ortho-K lenses by taking computerised maps using a Corneal Topographer, and assess the health of your cornea using specialist dyes and digital imaging.

This appointment lasts 30 minutes and the cost of the initial assessment is £50.

ORTHO-K FOR CHILDREN

Numerous studies have indicated that Ortho-K lenses can dramatically slow the progression of short-sightedness in children – subsequently reducing the risk of developing associated problems, such as glaucoma, in adulthood. Ortho-K brings real hope for parents – an opportunity to delay, or abate, myopia in their children. The improvements vary for each child, and the treatment has never been known to exacerbate Myopia, making it the best, safest option available now.

ORTHO-K FAQs

Yes, once the effect is complete, the lenses are simply removed each morning and you can see clearly for the duration of the day. And even before you take the lenses out in the morning, or if you get up in the middle of the night, your vision will still be clear. So the benefits work around the clock for you.

After the first night of wearing the lenses, most of the important correction has been achieved. Usually, daytime eyesight is corrected within the first week, and there is no longer any need for specs and regular contact lenses.

Yes. Research and trials show that the process is entirely reversible. If you decide that ortho-k is not for you and want to stop wearing them, the eye will return to its original shape and eyesight to its former condition. This flexibility makes ortho-k an excellent alternative to laser-eye surgery.

The treatment is comparable in price to wearing a pair of quality, daily- disposable contact lenses every day. We recommend replacing your ortho-k lenses every six-to-twelve months in order to ensure that they continue to provide optimum vision correction.

Not at all, because ortho-k lenses are designed from a gas-permeable material. This revolutionary design allows oxygen to pass through the lens into the eye, preventing dryness and irritation. The lenses are incredibly comfortable to wear, and because no lens is required during the day, the eyes benefit from natural oxygen levels while they are not being worn.

The lenses are designed to give you at least 36 hours of full correction. If you forget to insert your lenses that night you should have good natural vision until lunchtime the following day. After this you vision will start to fade but it will still be better than usual. If you need to, you can simply re-insert your lenses at anytime and you will then see perfectly.

Every six-to-twelve months depending on the type of most suitable to you. Build-up of microscopic particles in the internal “treatment zone” causes the lenses to become less effective over time. Wear and tear from cleaning and handling the contact lenses can cause warping and minute scratches to the lens surface. These both cause the lenses to become less effective. Your practitioner will advise you on the most appropriate replacement period.

Yes. With your lenses are in, you’ll be able to see perfectly. But once they’re out, you will see even better. It’s great – you have 20:20 vision on a 24/7 basis! Just imagine. If you wake up in the middle of the night you will be able to see, the alarm clock will be clear when you wake up and when you remove your lenses and take a shower you will also have great vision.

Over night contact lenses will give at least 36 hours of full vision correction. The lenses are designed to over correct your sight – at the beginning of the day you will excellent vision! This ensures that your vision will NOT fade at the end of the day if you wear them every night as prescribed.
